Application Information

Thank you for your interest in our residency training program at the University of Cincinnati.

The Emergency Medicine residency program at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine/University Hospital is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our last site visit was August 2006 and we received full 5-year accreditation as a result of that site survey. Our program is four years in length. We are currently approved for 12 residents per year.

The Department of Emergency Medicine participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and all our positions are available only through the NRMP. Any questions you may have should be directed to the NRMP (202-828-0676). Our NRMP program number is 1548110CO.

We accept applications through ERAS.

International Medical Graduates: In addition to the above materials, we also require:
  • graduation from medical school within the past two years
  • must have passed the CSA as well as Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE
  • current ECFMG certification and eligible for a J-1 visa
The application should include the Common Application Form (CAF), Dean’s Letter, three letters of recommendation (at least two from emergency medicine physicians), USMLE scores, and personal statement. Application deadline is November 1. After receipt of the Dean’s Letter on November 1, our Selection Committee will notify each applicant of its decision and, if appropriate, invite you for an interview. Interviews are by invitation only. All correspondence regarding the status of your application is conducted by e-mail. Therefore, applicants should have a reliable e-mail address that is checked in a timely manner.
